Last night Emmy continued to have several small seizures. She is now maxed out on seizure meds.
She is off her blood pressure medication for now which is in an improvement. This is especially encouraging as her seizure medication is suppose to alter her blood pressure - this has not been the case.
Her chestubes are draining lots of fluid, an increase. The surgeons are considering taking her intestines back out of her body to alleviate the increase in chest pressure that has developed over the night and this evening.
Emerson has not moved or coughed at all dispite being off of her paralytic medicine for more than 24 hours. Everyone is concerned about her brain function although it could be too early to tell because: she is heavily sedated, has a high ammonia count (causes sleepiness), and due to her decreased liver and kidney function with extreme swelling in her tissue, she could be retaining much of the paralytic and sedation. We are told it is to early to draw conclusions or do a definitive neurological exam. Some signs of encouragement are that she her CT looked clear and that her pupils have not changed (although it could be the sedation). Sometimes it is better not to know anything.
The geneticist is working with labs at University of Illinois Medical. She thinks that she will have some more results this afternoon.
A debate currently exists as to whether Emerson has liver failure. The debate stems from an extreme spike in her lactic acid levels.
Rounds on her are about to begin and I will post more if I learn anything.
