Day 30

Emerson did well during the loud MRI. We'll likely get the results this afternoon. I have some positive neurological milestones to share. All agree that Emerson's stare is more purposeful this morning. She was up all night and she just fell asleep. She has her nights and days confused. She is also yawning, gagging and coughing, all good signs. She is pushing back a bit to, this is more subjective but it seems as though she is interacting - albeit weakly. She has some response with her eyes when stimulated with light and by touch. I have heard nurses' say she has shark eyes, common with this much sedation.

Yesterday, they changed her adivan and methodone to every 8 hours instead of 6.

She started pedialite again through her NG tube.

The next couple of days she will continue to be weened from sedation and the ventiaktor. Neurology is making plans to furhter change the levels of her seizure medication. They will increse her Kepra. Phennobarbital is an anti seizure that strongly sedates her, previously, her level was a 57 it is now around 37. Combined with her other drugs, she is likely too out of it and presents as someone with troubling brain activity. The MRI will tell us more. If everything checks out, we will try to extubate her in the next two to three days depending on her sedation.
