Update Friday

A pediatric physical therapist came to visit today. She will be back tomorrow as well. She was pleased with Emerson's adema and considered her flexibility to be good. She suspects that the occupational therapist will put Emerson's ankles and feet in plastic splints to keep her feet at 90 degrees. I am okay with this addition.

Emerson's world of subtraction is more interesting at the moment. It seems her kidney function is back to tip top shape, she peed 100 cc in a two hour period - wow. She has regularly peed about 50 to 60 cc in a two hour period today.

The stomach vac hasn't been changed in over 12 hours! This is pretty remarkable as it was being changed every 3 to 4 hours before. Her right and left chest tube have produced far less as well. I'm hoping that she will lose her right one tomorrow but we will have to wait for morning surgical rounds to determine that one. Dr. Webster's goal for Emerson this weekend was to lose the stomach vac, a lofty goal but Em seems to have heard her.

It seems like Em has had some episodes of pain today, tough to witness. As Emerson's sedation is lessened, her pain, has raised our level of stress and emotional strain. She has moved a lot more today but she still hasn't opened her eyes. Her legs are not as taught as they have been. Her adema has improved throughout the day, however, she is still at least ten pounds heavier than she should be if not more. Some of it is guessing due to all the cords, tubes, sponges, etc.
